Stay Awhile... in Paula's Realm
Ricepaper MagazineAngelica LeMinh
Saturday, February 25th was kicked off at the Media Club for the CD release party of Vancouver loving Montreal transplant Paula Toledo. The small but mighty venue was perfect for casual lounging and swaying, and Paula did not disappoint. In this day of overproduced and undertalented singers, Paula was a breath of fresh air. She took a quiet command of her stage and held her audience willingly captive with her clear voice, honest songs, and natural style. Alternating between acoustic and electric guitars, she seamlessly switched her delivery to showcase her versatile influences and appeal. Her set was a nice length and her spoken introductions were introspective. Her magenta tights and mary janes were a hint that there is a lot more than meets the eye. I was lucky enough to unearth some of the mystery on Monday, and you will have to wait until our Fall 2006 issue to see the results.
